Middle-class vs government memes flood social media as Nirmala Sitharaman presents Budget 2024

'I too belong to the middle class, so I can understand the pressures of the middle class,' Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said. Meanwhile, individual taxpayers are eagerly anticipating significant changes to personal income tax policies in budget 2024 to ease the tax burden.

As Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman begins to present her seventh budget and during the third term of the Modi government on Tuesday, social media has been flooded with memes aimed at the middle class eyeing potential tax incentives. Most of the memes appeared to have pitted the government against the salaried class.

Individual taxpayers are eagerly anticipating significant changes to personal income tax policies and revised income tax slab rates to ease the tax burden and increase disposable income.

Moreover, last year, addressing the salaried class, the Finance Minister had said: "I too belong to the middle class, so I can understand the pressures of the middle class. I identify myself with the middle class, so I know."

While it remains to be seen if the Union Budget 2024 offers any relief to the middle class, here are some of the related memes popular on social media:

With the presentation of Union Budget 2024 on Tuesday, Nirmala Sitharaman became the first Finance Minister to present seven budgets in a row -- six annual budgets and one interim. Only former Prime Minister Morarji Desai had been able to come close to this feat--he had presented six union budgets. As Finance Minister, Desai had presented five annual budgets and one interim budget between 1959 and 1964.
