Deepinder Goyal’s latest update detailed the calibre of individuals Zomato has recruited through this process.

Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal recently provided an update on the hiring process for the highly sought-after chief of staff position. In response to his post on X, a candidate who had applied for the role shared his experience, praising the interview process and the valuable feedback he received.

Sanjay Krishna, a senior product manager at a tech company, revealed that although he did not make it to the final selection, he found the experience immensely beneficial.

"Sent out the mail purely out of curiosity and ended up having one of the best interview experiences. Didn’t make the final cut, but the conversation and feedback have helped me tremendously over the past few months. Grateful for the opportunity!" Krishna wrote on X.

Goyal’s latest update detailed the calibre of individuals Zomato has recruited through this process. He described the selected candidates as “founders who bootstrapped startups from their dorm rooms, engineers who rewrote entire tech stacks over a weekend, operators who turned chaos into scale, and a handful of brilliant young minds fresh out of college.” According to him, these individuals are seen as the future leaders of the company.

"Four of the 18 people who have alreadyjoined us work directly with me, and two of them are in chief of staff roles. And we’re not done. With 18,000+ applications, we’re still carefully sifting through this amazing talent pool," he wrote.

The chief of staff position first gained widespread attention in November 2024 when Goyal’s job posting stirred controversy. Initially, he had stated that applicants would need to pay Rs 20 lakh to secure the role, leading to intense debate on social media. However, he later clarified that there was no requirement for candidates to pay and reassured that those selected would, in fact, be “paid handsomely.”
