A new statue showing US President Donald Trump and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein recreating a famous scene from the 1997 film Titanic was installed on the National Mall near the United States Capitol on Tuesday. The sculpture, titled “King of the World,” references the iconic moment when the movie's protagonists stand at the front of the ship.

“The tragic love story between Jack and Rose was built on luxurious travel, raucous parties and secret nude sketches,” a plaque reads. “This monument honours the bond between Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein.”

Tourists were spotted taking pictures of the statue, which stood before a line of banners featuring images of Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein, along with the phrase “Make America Safe Again.”

The installation is the latest protest artwork on the National Mall by Secret Handshake, an anonymous group, according to The New Republic.

In September, the group installed a sculpture showing Trump and Epstein holding hands in front of the Capitol, though it was soon removed.

The organisation has also created a poop statue criticising January 6 Capitol attack rioters and displayed a large replica of Trump’s alleged birthday letter to Epstein.

The relation between Donald and Jeffrey Epstein has renewed scrutiny after the United States Department of Justice began releasing documents related to the late sex offender under the Epstein Files Transparency Act, signed into law in November. Several of the filess mention Trump along with other prominent figures.

The DOJ released another set of files earlier this month that mentioned 79-year-old Donald Trump. Three memos on the documents describe Federal Bureau of Investigation interviews with a woman who accused him of sexual assault. Karoline Leavitt called the claim “completely baseless” and said there is no credible evidence.

Several Democrats have asked Donald Trump to testify before the United States House Committee on Oversight and Accountability. The panel has already questioned Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton and Les Wexner, but Republicans say Trump has done nothing wrong.

Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein were socially acquainted in the 1990s and 2000s and were photographed together several times, including at Mar-a-Lago and the Plaza Hotel. In 2017, Epstein told author Michael Wolff that Trump was his “closest friend.”

Epstein died in jail in 2019 in a case ruled a suicide. Trump has said he ended their relationship years ago, denied any wrongdoing and called the controversy a “hoax” created by Democrats.
