'I'm more educated than you': UP cop scolds BJP MLC's son for causing traffic jam, misbehaving

A traffic police officer in Uttar Pradesh is earning praise online for standing his ground during a heated exchange with the son of a BJP MLC. The confrontation took place in Hathras when the politician’s car, bearing a BJP flag and “Vidhayak” or MLA signage, was parked on a busy road, causing a traffic jam.

When the officer asked the occupants to move the vehicle, he was allegedly told to “bhaag yahaan se” (get the hell out of here). In response, the officer began recording the incident and challenged the disrespect. “I am 55 and this is how you speak to me?” he asked. The politician replied, “You are an elder, that’s why I am treating you with respect,” prompting the officer to retort, “How are you respecting me by creating a traffic jam?”

The officer further asserted, “I am more educated than you. You’re misusing government power and harassing a cop,” as a sub-inspector stepped in to de-escalate the situation. The car eventually moved.

A video of the incident, which has garnered over 36,000 views on X, has sparked widespread support for the officer. Social media users have lauded his composure and courage for taking a stand despite political pressure.

"Very good that this cop had the guts to take on this stupid boy and did not come under pressure from his father's political position. That’s how police officials need to perform without fear or favor. The UP Police must give him commendations," commented Sanjay Kapur (@sanjay1193). "It's a refreshing change to see that at least a traffic cop in Uttar Pradesh could stand up against the political hooliganism and teach a lesson to someone whose only identity is being the son of a BJP MLC," added X user D (@Deb_livnletliv).

A few users also wondered if the traffic police officer would have treated him differently if he did not have political backing.

"Why argue with such guys?" asked Singh (@20_1NM). "If he is violating any law, put him behind bars or issue a challan. Agar koi normal banda hota tab to yahi police wale thappad mar chuke hote (If he did not have political connections, the police officers would have slapped him by now)."
