A doctor’s account of an unexpected consultation involving a former teacher has gained traction online after she described the encounter as one of the most significant moments in her professional life.

Dr Pratibha Nikhar Juneja shared a video on Instagram detailing how a patient visiting her clinic turned out to be Dr BD Gupta, who had previously headed the Forensic Medicine department during her time in medical college. In her post, she characterised the interaction as both meaningful and humbling.

“Today was a very special and emotional day for me,” she wrote. “A patient walked into my clinic… and it turned out to be someone who shaped my journey years ago — my respected teacher from medical college, the former HOD of Forensic Medicine, Dr BD Gupta Sir.”

She went on to reflect on the shift in roles between teacher and student. “The person from whom I once learned medicine... today trusted me with his health,” she said.

Expanding on the significance of the moment, Juneja described it as “unforgettable”, stating that it reinforced her understanding of the responsibilities associated with her profession. “Moments like these remind me why becoming a doctor is not just a profession, it’s a responsibility and a blessing. The faith that our teachers place in us is the greatest reward of all,” she wrote.

She further explained that reconnecting after several years and being entrusted with his care carried emotional weight. “Meeting him after so many years, taking his blessings, and knowing that he trusted me enough to come for treatment… truly made my day unforgettable,” she added.

Expressing appreciation for those who had influenced her journey, she concluded: “Grateful for mentors who guide us, inspire us, and continue to bless our journey.”

She also remarked on the lasting impact of mentorship, writing: “Once a teacher, always a guide. Feeling proud, humbled, and deeply thankful today.”
