During an interview with the Wall Street Journal Magazine, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook was caught off-guard by a simple question about iMessage group chats. Known for his deep involvement in tech and minimalistic approach, Cook admitted he was unaware of a basic iPhone feature—naming group chats in iMessage.
The conversation took place as WSJ journalist Ben Cohen asked Cook a series of rapid-fire questions regarding his personal tech habits. When asked what the best name for a group chat was, Cook appeared confused. "The best—name?" Cook responded. "I don’t name them. Do you name yours? Interesting. I may take that on."
Amused by the exchange, Cohen noted that Cook's bewildered expression suggested that the Apple boss had never considered the feature. However, Cook embraced the idea and informed Cohen in a follow-up that he had named a group chat with his college friends "Roommates."
The interview also offered insight into Cook’s daily routine. The CEO detailed how his day begins at 4 am, starting with checking his iPhone for emails, sales reports, and business updates from various countries. After this, he works out while using his Apple Watch to track his fitness and listens to classic rock through his AirPods.
Once at work, Cook shifts between various Apple products, including the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and iMac, and prefers to travel with his iPad Pro. Cook emphasised the importance of focus at Apple, noting that the company prioritises saying "no" to good ideas in order to make space for "great" ones. "The innovation is being able to craft the right product that you could deliver in a great way at the time," Cook remarked, underscoring the critical decision-making involved in running the world’s largest tech company.
