Delhi has topped the list of states that use abusive language extensively, a comprehensive 11-year study conducted across the country has found. Conducted under the Selfie with Daughter Foundation and Maharishi Dayanand University, the survey analysed data collected from nearly 70,000 people from diverse backgrounds, including youth, teachers, doctors, auto drivers, students, and the police, Daily Jagran reported.
According to the findings, 80 percent of participants in the national capital acknowledged using abusive language, with a significant prevalence of words specifically aimed at women. The survey further raised concerns by noting that 30 percent of female respondents also admitted to using such language.
Beyond Delhi, here's how other states fared in using abusive language:
1.) Punjab ranked second, with 78 percent of respondents admitting to its use.
2.) Uttar Pradesh (UP) and Bihar followed closely at 74 percent each.
3.) Rajasthan stood at 68 percent, and Haryana at 62 percent.
4.) Maharashtra recorded 58 percent, with neighboring Gujarat at 55 percent.5.) Madhya Pradesh registered 48 percent, and Uttarakhand at 45 percent.
In contrast, the North-East region reported lower rates ranging from 20 percent to 30 percent, while Jammu and Kashmir exhibited the lowest usage across the country, with only 15 percent of respondents reporting the use of abusive language.
The survey was spearheaded by a professor at Maharishi Dayanand University and founder of the Selfie with Daughter Foundation, Dr Sunil Jaglan. The campaign, called "Gaali Band Ghar Abhiyan" (No-Abuse Home Campaign), included responses from youth, parents, teachers, doctors, auto drivers, school and college students, policemen, lawyers, businessmen, sanitation workers, professors, and panchayat members.
The survey aimed to draw attention to the pervasive culture of verbal abuse, and also encouraged polite conversation and tracking systems at home.
