Delhi man’s Rs 2,000 DIY air purifier goes viral after cutting AQI from 400 to 50 in minutes

A Delhi resident has gone viral on Reddit after creating a DIY air purifier for just Rs 2,000 using an exhaust fan and HEPA filter. The homemade setup reportedly reduced AQI levels from 400 to 50 within minutes.

Tired of Delhi’s Smog, This Guy Built His Own Air Purifier for Rs 2,000

As Delhi-NCR battles another season of suffocating smog, one clever Reddit user might have just cracked the code to breathing clean air, without spending half a month’s salary.

While most of us are doom-scrolling AQI charts and coughing our way through November, a Redditor decided to do something about it. In a post that’s now going viral, the user shared how they built a fully functional DIY air purifier for just Rs 2,000, and the internet can’t get enough of it.

“I built this for Rs 2,000 and it works better than my Philips purifier”

Titled “I Built My Personal Air Purifier for 2000 INR”, the Reddit post walks readers through how this makeshift contraption came to life — and honestly, it’s pure genius.

The user combined a 150mm exhaust fan (Rs 750) with a HEPA filter bought from Amazon (Rs 1,000), plus some basic electricals and cardboard (Rs 150) to create what looks like a college project, except it works shockingly well.

According to the creator, this humble setup managed to bring the AQI in a 12×12 ft room from 400 to 50 in just 15 minutes, that too, on the fan’s lowest speed setting. For context, that’s cleaner than most high-end purifiers that retail for Rs 15,000 or more.

“It’s working great, even better than the Philips one I have,” the user casually noted, as if they didn’t just outsmart an entire industry.

Reddit can’t stop cheering for this desi innovation

The post blew up instantly, drawing hundreds of comments and thousands of upvotes from impressed Delhiites and DIY fans.

“Iski ek tutorial video bhi banao!” wrote one user, begging for a step-by-step guide. Another added, “Air purifiers aren’t exactly rocket science… just airflow through filters,” — fair point, but few of us actually build one.

Some even suggested the creator should start a YouTube channel or host a Delhi workshop to help others replicate the ?2K miracle. Honestly, not a bad idea when air purifiers are now as essential as power banks.

Meanwhile, Delhi gasps under toxic haze

The viral hack is spreading just as Delhi’s air hits the “severe” category yet again. The AQI in several parts of the capital has crossed 450, prompting school closures, health advisories, and memes that barely hide the collective panic.

To make matters worse, a recent viral video comparing Vienna’s crystal-clear skies to Delhi’s grey cloud of smog left social media users horrified, and maybe a little envious.

While most of us rely on overpriced purifiers or futile air-quality apps, this DIY hero has shown that innovation can be cheap, simple, and incredibly effective.

Because when the air outside turns toxic, Delhiites will always find a jugadu way to breathe easier, one HEPA filter and exhaust fan at a time.
