The Election Commission was doing well in taking action on use of black money in the poll process, former chief election commissioner Navin Chawla said today.
"May be the use of black money is not fully eliminated, but wherever the EC gets information about black money, it is taking action. This is a very good deterrent," Chawla said.
"The commission has involved the Income Tax Department, appointed expenditure observers and other observers, besides involving district magistrates and superintendents of police," he told reporters on the sidelines of a lecture on ''Relevance of Mother Teresa in the Modern World''.
He said the Commission was conducting the elections in West Bengal "very well and doing its best to prevent black money playing a role in the poll process."
"It (EC) is doing extremely well. It is doing very good work," Chawla, who was the predecessor of present chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi, said.
