As SSCBS graduates, we go to IIM Ahmedabad as underdogs: Gold medallists to Sanjeev Bikhchandani

Weeks after billionaire entrepreneur Sanjeev Bikhchandani praised the top three rank holders at IIM Ahmedabad and their undergraduate college after it turned out that all three of them were from Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies (SSBCS) in Delhi, the gold medallists met with the Info Edge founder on Thursday where they revealed the secret to their academic success.

It was after IIM Ahmedabad's 60th convocation ceremony in March that outstanding graduates Abhi Bansal, Ishaan Jain, and Aanchal Chadha caught Bikhchandani's attention. The three of them had completed their graduation from SSCBS in 2021 -- a college affiliated with the Delhi University and popular for its business management courses.

"After I tweeted a few days ago about the fact that all three of the gold medallists at IIMA were from Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, the College Principal reached out to me and invited me to the college to interact with the IIMA gold medallists who were visiting," Bikhchandani shared on X. He invited the fresh graduates to his office in Gurgaon for lunch.

"They dropped in today for lunch - two faculty and five students. The five students, all SSCBS alumni and from the 2025 class of IIMA were ranked 1,2,3,5 and 7 at IIMA. Unbelievable. Five out of the top seven at IIMA are from SSCBS. There is something remarkable happening at SSCBS," the Info Edge founder said.

When he asked them what the secret to their academic success was, the "top ranker" told Bikhchandani: “Sir, we go to IIMA as underdogs so we try harder”. The SSCBS faculty also credited their performance to the professors and the leadership of their principal, Poonam Verma, Bikhchandani was quick to note that "this hasn’t happened at IIMA earlier - five out of the top seven from the same college". SSCBS is also known to send dozens of students into the leading IIMs each year, he added.
