Google has released the 2016 recap of searches to reveal the most searched smartphones on Google globally. Here is the list of the top 5 most popular smartphones globally.

1) iPhone 7
The latest Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus grabbed the attention of the entire world when Apple dropped the traditional 3.5mm headphone jack in its iPhones. However, the iPhone 7 really does not have much to offer in terms of experience for users to upgrade from the iPhone 6S when compared to the iPhone 7 Plus.
2) Freedom 251

The sub-USD 4 smartphone never became a reality, however, the Freedom 251 amazed the world when it had claimed that a full-fledged Androi smartphone was actually possible for just Rs 251. It was soon discovered, that it more of a gimmick to gain public attention after the company—Ringing Bells failed to deliver sufficient quantities of Freedom 251 units, making it the biggest tech disappointment of 2016.

3) iPhoneSE

The iPhone SE was aimed at first-time Apple buyers and those who want to upgrade from the iPhone 5S and 5C, which had not been updated in over two years. The iPhone SE is equipped with a longer-lasting battery than the iPhone 5s and have faster wireless connections. It also works with Apple Pay, the company's digital wallet. The phone comes in four colour options- silver, gold, space grey and rose gold. Launched for Rs 39,000 in India, the Phone SE was a minor upgrade for most.

4) iPhone 6S

Soon after the launch of the new iPhone 7, the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus received a massive price cut in India. Apple iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus runs on Apple's own A9 chip with 64-bit architecture and an embedded M9 motion coprocessor. This was also the first phone to come with Apple's 3D touch technology.

5) Google Pixel

The first smartphone made by Google in partnership with HTC took on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus head on. With the latest Android Nougat 7.1 operating system, the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphone offers the exclusive Google Assistant. Google Pixel smartphone offers 5" Full HD AMOLED with Gorilla Glass 4 protection, 2.15GHz quad-core 64-bit Snapdragon 821 processor, 4GB RAM, 12.3MP (f/2.0) rear camera, 8MP front camera, 2770mAh (Fast charging), 32GB or 128GB (No microSD card support), NFC, 3.5mm headphone, USB Type-C, Fingerprint scanner. The Google Pixel XL comes with a similar spec sheet apart from a 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED display and a bigger 3450mAh battery.
