Nintendo is reportedly telling game publishers that its upcoming game console, the Switch 2, will be delayed until the early months of 2025.
According to Bloomberg, the successor to the runaway hit Nintendo Switch, was scheduled to be released by the end of this year. According to various sources, Nintendo is now saying to expect the new console next year.
The Japanese video game giant has told publishers not to expect the console before March 2025. The company launched its handheld/docked hybrid console, The Switch, in 2017 and it has remained a strong seller throughout its lifetime, selling over 139 million units.
The seven-year-old console has remained popular among fans and newcomers, thanks to standout first party and third-party titles like Mario Kart 8, Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Shin Megami Tensei V and more.
Nintendo has a sparse line-up of titles for the console this year, which could be a sign the company is holding back its big titles for the Switch 2.
"Nintendo is likely looking at a pretty dry pipeline this year," Tokyo-based analyst Serkan Toto told Bloomberg. “The company will still try to keep the blockbusters for the next console, so 2024 might see more remakes of old Nintendo hits. In any case, 2024 will be a lot tougher for Nintendo without a new device.”
Curiously, Nintendo remains the only game company out of the big three (The other two being Sony and Microsoft) that doesn't have an official presence in India.
