In a major vote of confidence for Rajeev Chandrasekhar amid his Lok Sabha battle with Congress’ Shashi Tharoor in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram, Infosys co-founder Kris Gopalakrishnan praised the BJP leader’s role in shaping India’s digital economy, attracting semiconductor giants to the country and inspiring local startups.

Chandrasekhar has served as a minister of state during the second term of the Modi government in three key departments — electronics and information technology, skill development and entrepreneurship, and Jal Shakti.

“Many congratulations to @Rajeev_Gol as he starts a new chapter in his political journey. India is today seen as world's best digital economy, and he's certainly been a key person in making that happen and he's a real inspiration for Indias youth and startups,” Gopalakrishnan said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

“Whether it was his 18 years in parliament where he was instrumental in shaping discourse on Digital privacy & Tech policy or his stint as a Minister @Goi_Meity where he did a commendable job in ensuring Safe&Trusted #internet, Catalysing Electronics manufacturing & attracting big semiconductor giants, Rajeev has a remarkable track record,” he added.

“Wishing him all the very best for the elections,” the Infosys co-founder further said.

Gopalakrishnan’s endorsement comes at a time when the Thiruvanthapuram face-off is healing up as the election draws near.

Chandrasekhar, has sent a legal notice to Congress MP Shashi Tharoor for defamation. In his notice, Chandrasekhar accused Tharoor of disseminating patently false information among the constituents of Thiruvananthapuram.

Chandrasekhar has alleged that the Congress MP disseminated "patently false information" regarding bribing of key voters and influential figures such as parish priests, among others, by the BJP leader, according to a report by news agency PTI.

Meanwhile, the Congress has moved the poll panel, claiming a mismatch in actual and declared assets in the affidavit filed by Chandrasekhar. According to procedure, the EC has directed the CBDT to verify any mismatch in affidavit details submitted by Chandrasekhar.
