OpenAI recently launched the GPT store, an online marketplace that will house custom variants of ChatGPT built for a specific purpose. The company says that anyone can build their own GPTs and it requires no coding knowledge.
But how exactly does that work, and how do you build your own GPTs?
Building a GPTFirst things first, you will need a ChatGPT Plus subscription to get started. This is because the GPT builder is only available for ChatGPT 4 users, which is locked behind a $20 subscription.
Once you have subscribed and logged in to your account, you will notice an option to 'Explore GPTs' from the menu on your left. These are community made GPTs and you should take your time to browse through these to get an idea of how they function. It will also help you come up with ideas for your own custom variants.
When you are ready to make your own GPT, Click on the '+Create' button located on the top right. This will divide your view into panes, with a prompt window appearing on your left.
This is where you will interact with the chatbot that will help you create a GPT. Simply tell it your idea, and begin the process. Take your time and test out each idea with the preview pane to your right. This will help you iron out your idea.
If you want to dig in deeper, you can click on the Configure tab to see how you GPT is being put together. You can modify these instructions using the same tone and style.
Here you can also upload files that will help GPT learn about specifics that are unique to your GPT, these can something like a design document if you are building a game, or specific instructions that you want carried out.
You can also control whether your GPT will have access to the internet or even embed OpenAI's DALL-E Image Generation.
If you have knowledge on coding, you can use the 'Create new action' button to input custom code. Since this is going to take more than one sitting, you can save your progress by selecting 'Save' on the top-right corner.
Once you are done, you can decide whether you want the GPT to be only accessible to you, everyone or specific people you send links to. You can also use customized logos for your GPT.
Modifying your GPTsChances are your first attempt won't strike gold, and you will need to keep refining it till it matches what you envisioned. Fortunately, it's really easy to find your created GPTs and modify them.
After you select 'Explore GPTs' on the left hand menu, select 'My GPTs' on the top. This will show a list of all your creations and which ones are public or private. You can edit your existing creations by clicking on the pencil icon next to its name.
From here you can once again use the configure tab to add features or simply interact with the builder chatbot to tell it what you want to add. Once you are done, simply ask the bot to update your GPT with the new features and wait for it to finish. Don't forget to click on Save once your are done.
