Apple announces date for a special event: What to expect

Apple has sent out media invites for a special event to be held on May 7. The invite comes with the tagline “Let Loose” and has a graphic featuring Apple Pencil, hinting at the launch of new iPad models. Earlier rumours had suggested that Apple will not host an event but do a ‘press release’ launch. However, Apple has now confirmed that an event will take place.

Rumours have been rife about Apple launching new models of iPad and the special event could see unveiling of Apple’s tablet computer. It is expected that a new 11-inch iPad Pro alongside a 13-inch iPad Pro could be launched. If Apple does launch the 13-inch iPad Pro, then it would be the biggest iPad — as per display size — model yet. Till now, the 12.9-inch model was the biggest iPad available. According to multiple rumours, both iPad Pro models are expected to feature an OLED display. The current models have a micro LED panel and the move to OLED will give iPads more brightness and better viewing experience.

Speaking of 12.9-inch iPad, it is expected that Apple will refresh the Air lineup with a bigger model. All new iPads are expected to feature the M3 processor.

iPads aren’t the only new devices which Apple may launch on May 7. In terms of iPad accessories, a brand new Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil are also expected to launch. Apple hasn’t upgraded the Magic Keyboard in a while whereas the Pencil did get a refresh in the form of a Type-C port and a lower price point.

The new iPads will come after a lull of almost 18 months as Apple didn’t launch a single tablet in 2023.
