While the colour and contrast ratios of AMOLED displays are still unmatched by even the best LCD technology in mobile devices, the former still lags behind in terms of pixel density. Now, IGNIS, a Canada-based company, has developed a new AMOLED screen with the pixel density of 300ppi and over based on the traditional RGB matrix. This technique will finally bring AMOLEDs closer to Apple’s Retina Display. IGNIS will not be manufacturing the display themselves, but will merely license this technology to display manufacturers. We bet Samsung will be the first in line for this, as they’ve been heavily using AMOLED displays in their mobile products.
