  • Trump Halts Military Aid to Ukraine, How Kremlin and Kyiv reacted? | N18G

The White House and Pentagon have not disclosed details on the suspension’s scope or duration. Ukraine has not officially responded, but Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal expressed confidence in maintaining battlefield stability while hoping for continued cooperation with Washington. • US may cut Ukraine's access to Starlink internet services over critical minerals dispute, say sources

Tensions loom over Ukraine, as Starlink internet have raised the possibility of cutting the country's access to Elon Musk's vital Starlink satellite. The event comes amid Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s denial for US’ access to the critical Earth minerals. Notably, Zelenskiy has rejected demands from Trump's administration for $500 billion in mineral wealth from Ukraine to repay Washington for wartime aid. Musk rushed thousands of Starlink terminals to Ukraine to replace communications services destroyed by Russia after its February 2022 invasion. Hailed at the time as a hero in Ukraine, Musk later curtailed access at least once before in the fall of 2022 as he became more critical of Kyiv's handling of the war. Zelenskiy rejected a detailed U.S. proposal last week that would have seen Washington and U.S. firms receiving 50% of Ukraine's critical minerals. The minerals include graphite, uranium, titanium and lithium, which are the key components in electric car batteries. Since then a rift has emerged between the leaders, with Trump denouncing Zelenskiy as "a dictator without elections"

  • Fate of USAID hangs in balance as Trump Pauses Foreign Aid, Musk Criticizes USAID | N18G

US President Donald Trump’s 90-day foreign aid pause led to the removal of USAID security officials after they blocked access to Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) representatives. Tensions escalated as DOGE personnel accessed restricted areas, sparking Musk’s criticism, calling USAID a "criminal organization." With Trump considering dissolving USAID, concerns arose about merging it with the State Department. Republican Brian Mast supports this, while Democrats argue it’s unconstitutional. USAID, created in 1961, has been the U.S.’s humanitarian arm, funding global aid and health programs. Critics fear Trump's actions may eliminate USAID’s independent status, creating a constitutional crisis.

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Dr. Anthony Fauci could not have government-provided security indefinitely and should hire his own. Trump confirmed that security had been withdrawn from multiple officials, including former national security adviser John Bolton, ex-Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and former Iran envoy Brian Hook. Fauci, who led the U.S. COVID-19 response, had received NIH security due to threats. Trump dismissed concerns, stating that officials had "made a lot of money" and should fund their own protection. He refused responsibility if harm came to them, emphasising that government security is not meant to last forever.

  • Trump's new demands trigger chaos ahead of government shutdown deadline | N18G

President-elect Donald Trump rejected a bipartisan plan to prevent a government shutdown, sending Congress into disarray just days before the deadline for federal funding. Trump demanded that House Speaker Mike Johnson and Republicans renegotiate the plan, urging them to be "smart and tough." The proposal included continued government funding along with a controversial provision to raise the national debt limit, which had been rejected by many Republicans in the past. Democrats condemned the GOP’s opposition, especially as the plan included vital disaster aid worth $100.4 billion for states affected by natural calamities. Despite these provisions, hard-right conservatives, influenced by Trump’s ally Elon Musk, rejected the plan due to its increased spending. Lawmakers were further displeased by pay raises included in the bill. The situation highlighted the difficulties Republicans face in unifying, especially as they prepare to take control of the House, Senate, and White House in 2024.
