Sartaj Aziz, Foreign Policy Adviser to Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, has said that the foreign secretary talks would be held on January 15 but National Security Adviser Ajit Doval was quoted as having said that talks can be held only after action, a stand from which he has distanced himself later.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Rajiv Pratap Rudy today informed the Lok Sabha that Swaraj is ready and would make a statement on Monday (December 14). The statement would be made in the Rajya Sabha at 11 AM and in the Lok Sabha at 2 PM on Monday, Rudy said.

Confirming the meetings, Sushma has said that talks are necessary to boost ties between the two countries. "Efforts will be made to take forward bilateral ties. Sushma Swaraj's visit comes two days after talks between the National Security Advisors of India and Pakistan in Bangkok, where they discussed terrorism, Jammu and Kashmir and a range of key bilateral issues apart from agreeing to carry forward the "constructive" engagement.
"On Tuesday, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is leaving for Islamabad and will give a statement after coming back. Government will brief in detail on talks in both Houses after Sushma ji returns from Islamabad," said Union Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy.
Nawaz Sharif is expected to meet Obama on October 22 in Washington during his US trip for which he was invited by the US President.
