India could become an $8 trillion economy in the near future, with $1 trillion driven by digital initiatives, including gaming, said Meta's Sandhya Devanathan.
Sandhya Devanathan said that India is one of Meta's key priority markets for business messaging globally, with Click-to-WhatsApp revenue doubling in the country over the past year.
By 2025, India’s gaming ecosystem along with all its brands will be worth $7.5 billion, Sandhya Devanathan said at Meta Gaming Summit.
Devanathan also added that for India to become a $5 trillion economy women’s participation is important, and that will require us to build right support systems to equally enable them.
Business messaging on Instagram, WhatsApp, and Facebook will be the next growth engine for Meta in India, she said.
In an interview with PTI, Devanathan, who took over the leadership role in January this year, said India's new Digital Personal Data Protection legislation has provided a framework and clarity for tech companies and marks a "great step in balancing user protection with innovation".
