If a product is found violating greenwashing guidelines on multiple occasions, those products may be banned from sale, an official said. Greenwashing refers to false or misleading claims by organisations about the positive impact that a company, product or service has on the environment.
At the MC Policy Next conference, Singh also said that the government is going to come out with guidelines so that there is no 'greenwashing'.
Singh further added that with government interventions, they have been able to nudge the market prices for food commodities in the right direction.
Consumer Affairs Secretary's move to take note of the redressal of complaints comes at a time when edtech companies in India have been under fire for alleged mis-selling and overselling to parents and learners.
The meeting has been called amid rise in consumer complaints of alleged unfair trade practices by these platforms, including ride cancellation policy as drivers force customers to cancel trips after accepting bookings, which results in customers paying cancellation penalties.
Acknowledging that road safety is a "big problem" in India, Gadkari said every year more than 150,000 people are killed in five lakh road accidents.
"Road safety is highest priority for our government," Gadkari told Indian journalists during a media round-table after his-day long meetings including that with US Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx and American business community.
