"The Government has approved restoration of MPLADS during the remaining part of the financial year 2021-22 with release of MPLADS fund at the rate of Rs 2 crore per Member of Parliament in one instalment,” Statistics Minister Rao Inderjit Singh said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
Funds will be released at the rate of Rs 2 crore per MP for the remaining period of 2021-22 in one instalment, Union Minister Anurag Thakur said.
Responding on the issue, Sitharaman said several MPs from different parties had made representation on the matter.
TMC also demanded that the money saved by suspending the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) fund for two years be given directly to migrant workers in their bank accounts.
The Centre spent Rs 2.7 lakh on an MP per month. The Parliament has a total of 795 members – 545 in the Lok Sabha and 250 in the Rajya Sabha
It further stated that as many as 208 accounts up to 14th Lok Sabha with states are still active which are required to be closed.
