According to a report in PTI, the companies are likely to announce a signing agreement by February 24-25. Telecom major has brought its ex-India unit chief Marten Pieters to work on the merger.
The Cellular Operators Association of India held its annual general meeting on Thursday and elected the new leadership as well as designated its executive council for the new term, it said in a statement.

The company had reported a total revenue of Rs 18,571.1 crore in the same period last fiscal. The data segment now contributes 13.5 percent to service revenues of the company.
Vodafone has spent a total of nearly Rs 19,600 crore in this auction of which around Rs 5,600 crore will be payable in this financial year.
This amount will be in addition to Rs 4,000-6,000 crore annual investments the company has been making in recent years.
"We have lower tariffs for 18 years against inflation of 8-9 percent per year. Now, can you do that forever? No you can't," Vodafone India Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Marten Pieters said in an interview to PTI.
