Need to update your Aadhaar details? Here’s how to change your name, address, or mobile number

Your Aadhaar card is not just an ID—but a gateway to fundamental things like banking, tax refund, and government subsidy. But if your phone number, address, or name has been changed, using outdated Aadhaar details may lead to denial or delay in services. Luckily, UIDAI facilitates easy updating both online and offline. Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to update your details correctly and hassle-free.

Keep your Aadhaar information current
Your Aadhaar card is the primary identification document for all from bank accounts to government subsidies. If your name, address, or mobile number has changed, it's essential to update it with UIDAI to prevent service interruptions. Although certain updates can be performed online, others require a trip to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra. Here's the way to go about it simply.
Updating your address online

Updating your address online
The easiest one that you can update is your address, and even that can be done online. Visit the UIDAI website and select "Update Aadhaar Online." Log in using your Aadhaar number and OTP on your registered mobile number. Upload a valid proof of address document such as an electricity bill, bank statement, or rent agreement. Once uploaded, you will get a URN to track your request.

In order to modify your name, you must visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra. Bring original documents like your PAN card, passport, or any other governmental ID bearing your right name. Fill in the Aadhaar Update Form, and a photo and fingerprint would be taken for identification purposes. The update would generally be reflected in your record within 7 to 10 working days.
Changing your mobile number offline only

You cannot change your mobile number on the web as you can for the address. For this, visit your nearby Aadhaar update or enrolment centre. You need to submit a form and authenticate by your biometrics. You don't require any document for the updation of the mobile number, but it requires your presence. After updation, an SMS will be sent to the new number as an acknowledgment.
Fees, timeline, and tracking your request

Fees, timeline, and tracking your request
UIDAI charges a fee of ₹50 for an update request, be it name, address, or mobile number. You receive a URN (Update Request Number) upon sending your request, with which you can track the status on the UIDAI website. After your changes are verified, you can download an updated Aadhaar PDF or be sent a re-printed card for a nominal fee.
Don't delay your Aadhaar updates

It is essential that your Aadhaar details are updated so that you can access important services without any disruption. If you've shifted residence and updated your address or changed your mobile number, it's simple if you do it the correct way. Don't wait and face issues with your PAN, bank, or government scheme authentications.
