Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the spaces of governance have been reshaped to reflect Kartavya and transparency. Every name, every building and every symbol now points to a simple idea that the Government exists only to serve. Rajpath became Kartavya Path. A landmark street now carries a message. For PM Modi, the Power is not an entitlement but is a duty.

The Prime Minister’s official residence was renamed Lok Kalyan Marg in 2016. A name that conveys welfare, not exclusivity. A reminder of the work that lies ahead for every elected government. The new complex housing the PMO is called Seva Teerth. The Grih Pravesh Puja has already been done when entire PMO led by PM Modi himself was present. A workplace designed to reflect the spirit of service and where national priorities take shape.

Eight states and a Union territory have changed the name of their governor/lieutenant governor’s house from ‘Raj Bhavan/Raj Niwas’ to ‘Lok Bhavan/Lok Niwas’ following a directive from ministry of home affairs (MHA) to shed the earlier nomenclature associated with colonial era. The suggestions for this change came at the Conference of Governor's in Delhi last year. In the follow up to that suggestion, Union Home Ministry wrote a letter to the Secretaries to the Governor or Lt Governors to implement this suggestion.

Raj Bhavans across the country being renamed as Lok Bhavan proves that the change is not just administrative, but It has a cultural and moral impact as well. The idea of governance is moving from Satta to Seva and from authority to responsibility. India’s public institutions are undergoing a quiet but profound shift.

The Central Secretariat is named Kartavya Bhavan. A vast administrative hub built around the idea that public service is a commitment. These changes mark a deeper ideological transition. Indian democracy is choosing responsibility over power and service over status. A shift in names is also a shift in mindset. Today the entire system has started speaking the language of seva, Kartavya and citizen-first governance.
