Cement companies sight swift demand recovery
Contrary to fears, rural demand has recovered well after the second wave. Housing and infrastructure projects are expected to drive demand too. However, a severe third wave can pose a risk.
Higher COVID-19 infections in villages during the second wave had stoked concerns about the effect this could have on rural demand. Several companies in the consumer (FMCG) sector too had voiced their concern on this front. While cement companies too get a large share of their sales from rural areas, they are largely sanguine about demand prospects.
