India has emerged as the centerstage globally and is shaping the world order, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told parliamentarians at a meeting of the NDA parliamentary party in New Delhi on Tuesday after the announcement of an India-US tariff deal and the trade deal between India and the European Union (EU).
"The world is tilting towards India," the Prime Minister was quoted as saying during the meeting earlier today, adding that the India-US and India-EU trade deals were a testament to India's strength even in the face of uncertainties.
The Prime Minister is also learnt to have described the India-US breakthrough as a vindication of the government's strategic patience in global negotiations.
Modi said the India-US trade deal, under which reciprocal tariffs on Indian goods will be reduced with the United States agreeing to cut tariffs on Indian exports to 18 per cent from higher punitive rates, was the result of "patience and wisdom" in negotiations that reflected India's growing economic stature.
"I told you that sometimes results don't come immediately, but patience and wisdom pay off. That is what has happened," Modi was quoted as saying as he pitched the deal as a strategic win for Indian exporters and broader economic diplomacy.
The Prime Minister also underscored the importance of parliamentary engagement as the Budget Session proceeds, exhorting all NDA MPs to be present in the House and take part in crucial discussions on national policy and legislative business.
"All MPs should be present in the House, take part in the discussion," he said asking lawmakers to actively communicate the government's achievements and policy direction to their constituents.
Modi linked the trade agreement to India's broader efforts to diversify trade partnerships, which also include a recent free trade pact with the European Union which has been termed as the "mother of all deals" and other bilateral arrangements aimed at expanding market access for Indian goods.
The NDA meeting also saw BJP leaders highlight the economic and geopolitical significance of the pact, with allies describing the deal as a boost for Indian industries and a sign of India's rising global footprint.
BJP national president Nitin Nabin said the agreement opened "new opportunities for the youth and exporters". At the meeting, the Prime Minister was also felicitated by the NDA leaders for successfully concluding trade deals with 39 countries.
