The driver and technician of an ambulance have been arrested for allegedly raping an unconscious woman inside the emergency vehicle in Bihar’s Bodh Gaya.

The 26-year-old woman, participating in a Home Guard recruitment drive, fainted and collapsed during a physical test, according to a report by News18. When she was being transported to a hospital, she was gang-raped in the moving ambulance.

The alleged assault occurred on July 24. The recruitment process was being held at the Bihar Military Police grounds in Bodh Gaya. According to police, the woman fainted while undertaking a physical endurance test, part of the standard procedure for recruitment.

The woman said she fainted during the physical test and was only partially conscious while being transported. She later informed police and hospital staff that three to four men inside the ambulance had sexually assaulted her, News18 reported.

A case was registered at the Bodh Gaya police station. Hours after the FIR was registered, police arrested two suspects — Vinay Kumar, the ambulance driver, and Ajit Kumar, a technician on board the vehicle.

Officials confirmed that CCTV footage from the surrounding area has helped verify the ambulance’s route and timeline, lending key evidence to the ongoing probe.

As the incident has once again reignited concerns about law and order in the state, Union minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ramvilas) chief Chirag Paswan said, “The way crime is happening in Bihar, the administration has totally bowed down in front of criminals."

“This incident deserves condemnation — but the real question is, why are such crimes repeatedly happening? There’s a series of crimes. If this continues, the situation will become frightening — in fact, it already has," Paswan added, News18 reported.

Further investigation is underway.
