Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said explosions were heard in Srinagar hours after it was announced that India and Pakistan have reached an understanding to stop all firings and military actions on land, air and sea, with immediate effect.
"What the hell just happened to the ceasefire? Explosions heard across Srinagar!!!" he said in a post on X.

His post was followed by a video capturing air defence units thwarting Pakistani drone attack. "This is no ceasefire. The air defence units in the middle of Srinagar just opened up," the J&K CM wrote.
Red streaks were seen across the sky and explosions were heard as Pakistan resorted to firing at various parts of Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan and Punjab.
The government, earlier this evening, announced India and Pakistan have mutually agreed to stop all military action following DGMO-level talks with the neighbouring country.
"DGMO of Pakistan called India's DGMO at 3.35pm. It was agreed between them that both sides will stop all firing and military action on land, air and sea with effect from 5 pm (IST). Instructions given to both sides to give effect to this understanding. The DGMOs will talk again on May 12 at 12 pm," said Foreign Minister Vikram Misri.
Soon after the official statement, Omar Abdullah had welcomed the ceasefire, saying it was better late than never. "I welcome from the depths of my heart the announcement made by the Government of India spokesperson about the restoration of ceasefire between India and Pakistan," Abdullah told reporters at his residence.
"Better late than never but had this ceasefire come two or three days earlier, perhaps the bloodshed we saw and the precious lives we lost, would have been safe," he added.
Indian armed forces, in the wee hours of May 7, carried out missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The strikes, carried out under 'Operation Sindoor', destroyed Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) stronghold of Bahawalpur and Lashkar-e-Taiba's (LeT) base Muridke.
At least 100 terrorists were killed in Indian strikes under Operation Sindoor, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on the operation. Five top LeT and JeM terrorists were among those killed in Operation Sindoor, government sources said on May 10. Masood Azhar’s brothers-in-law were among those killed in the operation.
