Union parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju on Friday said that Operation Sindoor would be discussed in both Houses of the Parliament next week, highlighting that the Opposition had raised this demand before the ongoing monsoon session began on July 21.
“Before the monsoon session began, several opposition parties, including the Congress, had requested that Operation Sindoor and the Pahalgam terror attack should be discussed in Parliament. The government said we are ready to discuss it,” he said, as per news agency ANI.
Rijiju added that the discussion on the operation would take place in Lok Sabha on Monday, July 28 and in Rajya Sabha a day after.
Furthermore, the union minister urged opposition parties to not create a ruckus.
His remarks came as both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned on Friday amid sloganeering and protests by opposition members. The lower house is set to meet next on July 28 at 11 am. The Rajya Sabha too was earlier adjourned at 2 pm, and is set to meet on Monday 11 am.
Friday was for the fifth straight day that no significant legislative business was transacted.
The opposition is demanding a discussion on special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, an exercise initiated by the Election Commission ahead of the state assembly polls due later this year.
“The opposition has been creating a ruckus in Parliament from day one and protesting inside and outside Parliament and not allowing the House to function. In the first week of the monsoon session of Parliament, we have been able to pass only one bill... I urge all opposition parties not to disrupt the proceedings of Parliament,” Rijiju said.
“All issues cannot be discussed together... The opposition has raised several issues, like the special intensive revision (SIR) exercise in Bihar and others. We have told them that Operation Sindoor will be discussed first. We will decide which issues will be discussed after that,” he said.
