A violent clash broke out between supporters of BJP MLA Gopichand Padalkar and NCP (Sharad Pawar group) MLA Jitendra Awhad inside the Maharashtra Legislature complex. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.
The clash came a day after Padalkar and Awhad had a heated exchange at the entrance of the legislature building. Awhad on Wednesday alleged that Padalkar had slammed the door of his car on him deliberately.
Tensions appeared to have escalated the next day when supporters of both leaders confronted each other and came to blows in full public view.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut said "a gang war took place in Maharashtra's Vidhan Bhavan". "The Bharatiya Janata Party has brought criminal gangs into the legislature and their party. During Devendra Fadnavis's tenure, Maharashtra's culture has been destroyed, Fadnavis is the Home Minister. A riot broke out in Vidhan Bhavan right under his nose! The MLA Padalkar, who caused the riot in Vidhan Bhavan today, is a member of Team Devendra. What have Modi and Shah sown in Maharashtra? mThis picture is extremely painful! Where has Chhatrapati Shivaji's Maharashtra been taken? @Dev_Fadnavis @PMOIndia," Raut posted on X.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis condemned the incident, calling it "absolutely inappropriate". Speaking to reporters, he said, "The situation that occurred is not correct. This comes under the purview of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Speaker and Legislative Council Chairperson. Such fights should not happen in Vidhan Bhavan. I have urged them to conduct a proper investigation."
