Seven Kanwariyas were arrested after they were involved in a fight with a CRPF jawan over a ticket issue at Uttar Pradesh's Mirzapur railway station, police have said. A video of the incident is now going viral on social media.
The video shows a group of Kanwariyas in saffron attire, punching and kicking a CRPF jawan who was going to take the Brahmaputra Mail at Mirzapur station. The video shows the Kanwariyas pinning the CRPF jawan to the ground and thrashing him. Meanwhile, several people can be seen looking as the incident unfolded.
Media reports said that the Railway Protection Force reached the site of the incident and filed a case against the Kanwariyas. After an investigation, the seven Kanwariyas were arrested, as confirmed by RPF in-charge inspector Chaman Singh Tomar said.
Heartbreaking & outrageous! A brave CRPF jawan, serving our nation, was brutally assaulted allegedly by Kanwariyas in Mirzapur, UP, as captured in a viral video. This isn’t about religion at all, it’s about law & order crumbling! Our soldiers sacrifice everything for us, yet… pic.twitter.com/1OTeITpsk7— Tehseen Poonawalla Official 🇮🇳 (@tehseenp) July 19, 2025
Seven Kanwariyas have been arrested in the case of beating up a CRPF jawan," Tomar told the media. This comes a day after the members of the right-wing group ‘Hindu Raksha Dal’ held a protest outside a KFC outlet in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday, demanding that non-vegetarian food should not be sold during the holy Hindu month of Sawan, which is considered a sacred time for worship and fasting by many Hindus.
The group also demonstrated outside a local restaurant named Nazir, which led to disruptions and forced both places to temporarily shut down. The incident quickly gained attention after videos of the protest were widely shared on social media platforms, The Times of India reported.
Currently, Kanwariyas are participating in the Kanwar Yatra which started on July 11 and will end on July 23 and is an annual pilgrimage journey of Lord Shiva's devotees. This annual journey involves them walking barefoot, carrying the holy water from Ganga in pitchers (Kanwars) to temples.
