The Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested Canada-based gangster Bandhu Maan Singh Sekhon for allegedly supplying the weapons and vehicles that were used in the firing incident at comedian Kapil Sharma’s Kaps Cafe in Surrey earlier this year.
Officers recovered a high-end PX-3 “Made in China” pistol and eight live cartridges from him at the time of arrest, News18 reported.
All about Bandhu Maan Singh Sekhon
According to Joint CP Crime Branch Surender Kumar, Sekhon travelled to Canada in 2019 on an employment visa and later came into contact with extremist groups.
“He went to jail in some cases and developed links with extremists there. After that, he began working with them,” Kumar told ANI.
DCP Crime Branch Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said Sekhon’s name had appeared earlier in an arms-supply case.
“After apprehending him, we learned that he is a Canada-based gangster involved in several firing and extortion cases there and was even arrested in Canada,” he said.
Investigators have said that while Sekhon was not one of the shooters at Sharma’s café, he played a key role in planning the attack.
A video circulating online reportedly showed him firing rapid rounds from a shotgun in a snowy location, wearing a biker jacket and spectacles.
The Crime Branch investigation gained momentum after Canadian authorities identified the vehicle used by the attackers.
As the probe in the matter expanded, Sekhon allegedly fled Canada and arrived in India in August, according to reports.
This was at the same time when the Delhi Police arrested an arms-smuggling gang. During interrogation, the accused had claimed that they had supplied weapons to Sekhon in Ludhiana.
This information enabled the Crime Branch to track his movements and eventually arrest him.
Police records confirm that Sekhon faces multiple criminal cases, both in India and Canada, including instances of firing and extortion.
