West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday requested Governor CV Ananda Bose to not visit Murshidabad and said that she will be visiting the violence-hit city to restore confidence.

"I will go to Murshidabad. An SIT has been formed to investigate the unrest in Murshidabad. The state government will build houses for the victims. The Administration is trying to restore the confidence of the people of Murshidabad," said Banerjee to reporters in Kolkata.

“I would request non-locals not to visit Murshidabad right now. I would appeal to the governor to wait for a few more days as confidence-building measures are underway. The situation is normalising,” she said according to The Indian Express.

Earlier, Governor Bose announced that he will be visiting Murshidabad on Friday to check ground reality.

"I am going to the field to see for myself the realities of the field. I will have an objective view of the matter. The situation has been brought under control. We should take further steps to prevent similar instances in future. I will certainly visit Murshidabad. People from the area have requested to have a BSF camp there," said Bose.

He also met the victims of Murshidabad violence at Raj Bhavan.
