The design concept of the Vande Bharat Sleeper First AC coach was unveiled on October 15 by Indo-Russian joint venture Kinet Railway Solutions at the International Railway Equipment Exhibition (IREE) 2025 in New Delhi.
A full-scale mock-up of the four-berth First AC compartment was presented by Nishunk Garg, project director, and Evgeny Maslov, chief industrial designer of the Vande Bharat Sleeper project.
The new design includes built-in USB ports, individual reading lights, compact storage, and redesigned stair access to upper berths. The interiors feature neutral tones, metallic accents, and Indian-style motifs developed with local artists.
Evgeny Maslov said the focus of the design was on passenger comfort.
“In our approach, the passenger always comes first – a real person with emotions and expectations. The First AC sleeper compartment we’re presenting today isn’t a pompous luxury for a few – it’s a calm, airy environment open to everyone,” Maslov said.
Kinet also showcased the exterior design of the sleeper train, which features aerodynamic contours and updated lighting.
“We wanted to create an iconic Vande Bharat image that blends cultural identity with technological excellence,” Maslov added.
Nishunk Garg said the unveiling marks an important milestone for the project.
“We value our partnership with Indian Railways and are committed to delivering safe, comfortable, and efficient trains,” he said.
He added that the Marathwada Rail Coach Factory in Latur, where the trains will be produced, is in the final phase of modernization, with production expected to ramp up by the end of 2025.
The First AC mock-up will be open for public viewing during the three-day IREE 2025 exhibition at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan.
Kinet Railway Solutions is a joint venture between Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) and Russian rolling stock companies, formed to manufacture and maintain 120 Vande Bharat Sleeper trains for Indian Railways.
