Officials at Vadodara Central Jail stated that the prison authorities have informed the City Police that Chaurasiya can be taken out at 9 am, and escort officers from the city police headquarters should be assigned accordingly.

Vadodara car crash accused, Rakshit Chaurasiya, is set to undergo an orthognathic surgery, to reconstruct a jawbone following a fracture, at the government-run SSG hospital on Wednesday.

Chaurasiya, who crashed a speeding car into three two-wheelers in the Karelibaug area on the night of March 13, leading to the death of a woman and seven others injured, is currently held in a semi-high security section of Vadodara Central Jail. He will be transferred to a hospital located across the road from the jail on Wednesday for a one-day procedure to reconstruct his fractured right jawbone, which was caused by injuries he sustained when locals apprehended him and punched him in the face following the accident, jail officials confirmed to The Indian Express.

“He had come to seek an opinion and undergo necessary scans for the doctors to understand the kind of treatment he needed… He has been advised to undergo a fracture reconstruction surgery as his jawbone is damaged. We have scheduled the surgery for Wednesday morning but since he has not been admitted yet, it (the timing of the surgery) will depend on whether he is brought by the police or not,” Dr Hitendra Chauhan, Resident Medical Officer, SSG hospital told The Indian Express.

The doctor asserted that since the procedure is a “minor one”, Chaurasiya is likely to be discharged within a few hours of the surgery. A senior doctor explained that orthognathic surgery, performed by plastic and reconstructive surgeons, involves realigning damaged jawbones using screws, plates, and, if needed, grafted bones.

“He will be discharged in a day and be prescribed post-operative management medicines along with soft food for a few days. The healing will be monitored in follow-up visits,” the doctor informed.

Officials at Vadodara Central Jail stated that the prison authorities have informed the City Police that Chaurasiya can be taken out at 9 am, and escort officers from the city police headquarters should be assigned accordingly.

A senior jail official added, "We have already approved his visit to the hospital and notified the city police to arrange for escort officers. Since the surgery is necessary and recommended, there’s no reason to deny it. He has been carrying the injury since his arrival here."
