A shocking incident has been reported from Lalitpur in Uttar Pradesh, where dogs attacked the body of a newborn at a Medical College on Tuesday. In the disturbing visual, the dogs are seen tearing the child's head apart. By the time people intervened, the child's head had already been eaten by the dogs.
According to an NDTV report, the child was born at the District Women’s Hospital at Lalitpur Medical College on Sunday, February 9, and was immediately admitted to the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) due to underweight and health complications.
Dr. Meenakshi Singh, Chief Medical Officer, said that the baby was born with congenital defects, including an underdeveloped head and no spine. The infant weighed only 1.3 kg and had a heart rate of 80 beats per minute when transferred to the SNCU. Unfortunately, the child passed away later that evening.
“The child was alive when we moved him to SNCU, but we were not sure if he would survive given the condition,” Dr. Singh added.
After the child's death, the body was handed over to the family, with the newborn’s aunt taking possession of it. According to Dr. Singh, the hospital has received a record with the aunt's thumb impression.
However, on Tuesday afternoon, hospital staff were alerted about the dog attack on the child’s body. Upon investigation, authorities found the headless body on the ground. The hospital administration has accused the family of negligence, claiming they abandoned the body in a plastic bag.
“We believe the family discarded the child’s body, and we identified it by the hospital tag attached to it,” Dr. Singh said.
The hospital removed the body hours before informing the police. Lalitpur Medical College Principal D Nath has formed a committee of four doctors to conduct an investigation and submit the report within 24 hours.
