US Vice President JD Vance on Tuesday heaped praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that the Indian leader's approval ratings make him "jealous".
Speaking at an event in Rajasthan's Jaipur during his trip to India, Vance slammed the previous Joe Biden administration for criticising PM Modi, whom he described as “arguably the most popular leader in the democratic world.”
"Too often in the past, Washington approached PM Modi with an attitude of preachiness or even one of condescension. Prior administrations saw India as a source of low cost labour on one hand even as they criticised PM Modi's government - arguably the most popular in the democratic world. And as I told Prime Minister Modi last night, he's got approval ratings that would make me jealous," he said.
Vance also praised the Prime Minister for being a "tough negotiator", adding that Modi's negotiation skills are the prime reason why the US respects him.
PM Modi has consistently emerged as the most popular leader globally, scoring the highest approval ratings among global heads of state.
According to Morning Consult, PM Modi has an approval rating of 73% based on data collected from April 1-7, 2025.
The data shows PM Modi far ahead of No.2 on the list, Argentina's President Javier Milei (61%). US President Donald Trump's approval rating is at 48%, according to the data.
In previous surveys too, PM Modi has topped the global approval ratings of world leaders.
