Last month, Trump also singled out New Delhi for high tariffs during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to the White House.

In a major blow, the US administration has asked India for nil tariffs on nearly all its products except agriculture goods traded between the two countries, a report by CNBC-TV18 said on March 6.

Significantly, the US President Donald Trump-led administration is unlikely to grant any concession to New Delhi from the reciprocal tariffs set to come into effect from April 2.

This comes after Trump repeatedly called out India and other countries for ‘unfair’ trade systems.

Last month, Trump also singled out New Delhi for high tariffs during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to the White House.

Union commerce minister Piyush Goyal held talks with US Trade Representative and US commerce secretary in the US and further talks are scheduled between the officials of the two countries on the outcomes achieved so far, the TV channel said.

However, the Americans are unlikely to make any exception for India, it said.

RedboxGlobal India reported that New Delhi is not willing to immediately cut tariffs on auto imports to zero. However, India is open for more cuts, the report said. The agency said that the government officials had held a meeting with domestic carmakers to talk reducing tariffs to zero, RedboxGlobal said citing sources.
