UK PM in India: Keir Starmer says 'flying flag for British business in Mumbai, growth in India means...'

After Starmer arrived in India, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), said in a post on X that the UK PM’s visit marks a new chapter in the strong and dynamic India-UK partnership.

UK PM Keir Starmer arrived in Mumbai on Wednesday

United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer reached India on Wednesday, marking his first official visit to India. He was accompanied by the largest-ever trade delegation from the UK.

After reaching Mumbai, Starmer said that growth in India for British businesses “means more jobs for people at home".

In a post on X, Starmer posted a picture on Wednesday and said, “I’m flying the flag for British business in Mumbai, because growth in India for British businesses means more jobs for people at home."

Further, Starmer also interacted with business leaders in Mumbai on Wednesday. He was greeted at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy CMs Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, and Maharashtra state Governor Acharya Devvrat.

After Starmer arrived in India, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), said in a post on X that the UK PM’s visit marks a new chapter in the strong and dynamic India-UK partnership.

“A warm welcome to PM @Keir_Starmer of the United Kingdom! Received by Governor of Maharashtra and Gujarat Mr. Acharya Devvrat @maha_governor at the airport. This is PM Starmer’s first visit to India. This visit marks a new chapter in our strong & dynamic India-UK partnership," the ministry's X post read.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also welcomed Starmer, calling his arrival a “historic first visit". PM Modi expressed optimism about advancing the bilateral relationship between the two nations.

PM Modi took to X to write, "Welcome Prime Minister Keir Starmer on your historic first visit to India with the largest ever trade delegation from the UK. Looking forward to our meeting tomorrow for advancing our shared vision of a stronger, mutually prosperous future."

Reports said that PM Modi and Starmer will talk about the progress in diverse aspects of the India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in line with the Vision 2035 roadmap of initiatives.
