Two Paytm Payments Bank employees have been arrested by the Noida Police for allegedly releasing nearly Rs 30 lakh from accounts that were frozen due to their suspected involvement in fraudulent activities.

The two employees (Chandresh Rathore of Jabalpur and Tariq Anwar of Mau) allegedly used their access privileges to bypass restrictions on frozen accounts, allowing funds to be withdrawn unlawfully.

They were arrested after an internal investigation revealing unauthorised transactions carried out by the accused employees.

According to additional deputy commissioner of police (cyber) Shavya Goyal speaking to NDTV,  the probe began after Paytm Payments Bank filed a complaint with the police in August last year, alleging that some of its employees were "misusing" their position and unfreezing the accounts frozen by the investigating agencies without any permission.

According to The Times of India report, citing a police officer, these two employees were allegedly working with an intermediary, who would be in touch with owners of various frozen accounts

It is known that the account owners would further pay the accused to defreeze their accounts and release funds.

Senior police officer Vivek Ranjan Rai have been quoted to share that the accused have helped cyber criminals this way for several years before getting caught.

It is also said that more employees of Paytm Payments Bank could be involved in the scam, according to another official cited in the report.
