Two armed Bangladeshi border guards allegedly crossed into Indian territory through the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura illegally. One of them was detained by the Border Security Force (BSF) on Thursday.
The incident took place at Kamthana village under Madhupur police station in Sepahijala district of Tripura.
The detained guard has been identified as Mohammad Miraj Islam, a jawan of the 60th battalion of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). He was posted at Madla in Brahmanbaria district of Bangladesh, NDTV reported citing BSF sources.
Miraj, along with another BGB personnel, intruded nearly 100 metres inside the Indian territory through border gate No. 136-137. BSF personnel noticed the movement and promptly intercepted them. While Miraj was detained, the other intruder managed to escape and cross the border back to Bangladesh, sources told NDTV.
The detained BGB jawan is being interrogated at the Kamthana BSF camp.
Communication has taken place between the commandants of BSF and BGB, and the matter is likely to be resolved through a flag meeting scheduled for tomorrow, NDTV reported.
The breach has sparked security concerns along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Tripura.
