Amid ongoing India-US trade deal negotiations, President Donald Trump on Friday said talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi "going good" and stated that he plans to visit India.
During a press briefing, Trump said, ""They are going good, he stopped buying oil from Russia largely. He is a friend of mine, and we speak and he wants me to go there. We will figure that out, I will go... Prime Minister Modi is a great man and I will be going..."

On being asked about his plan to visit India next year, he said, "It could be, yes."
During the briefing, Trump once again repeated his claim of brokering a peace deal between India and Pakistan.
He said, "Of the 8 wars I ended, 5-6 were because of tariffs... If you look at India and Pakistan, they started to fight, they were 2 nuclear nations... 8 planes were shot down... And I said, 'Listen, if you guys are going to fight, I am going to put tariffs on you.' And they were not happy about that and within 24 hours, I settled the war. If I did not have tariffs, I wouldn't have been able to settle the war..."
Trump's latest remarks come amid ongoing trade negotiations between the two New Delhi and Washington. US imposed a 50 per cent tariff -- including 25 per cent additional duties -- on Indian imports, citing concerns over India’s ongoing purchases of Russian crude oil.
White House spokesperson Caroline Leavitt earlier reaffirmed Trump’s commitment to improving bilateral ties, calling India a "critical partner" for the US.
"The President is positive and feels very strongly about the India-US relationship. A few weeks ago, he spoke to the Prime Minister directly when he celebrated Diwali in the Oval Office with many high-ranking Indian-American officials here at the White House," Leavitt said.
