'Trump prevented and ended India-Pakistan war': Marco Rubio reiterates White House claims

Rubio’s remarks echoed Trump’s own claims made just a day earlier during a dinner with Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has, once again, credited President Donald Trump with preventing the war between India and Pakistan, a conflict he suggested could have escalated to a nuclear level.

Speaking at a Cabinet meeting at the White House late Tuesday evening, Rubio hailed Trump’s foreign policy record, stating, “Under your leadership, we've prevented and ended a war between India and Pakistan.”

He further praised Trump for helping to end conflicts in regions like the Congo, Rwanda, the Middle East, and the Caucasus.

Notably, Rubio’s remarks echoed Trump’s own claims made just a day earlier during a dinner with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Trump said his administration had issued an ultimatum to both India and Pakistan at the height of military tensions early this May, warning that the U.S. would suspend all trade if the conflict escalated.

“They were maybe at a nuclear stage. They're both nuclear powers. And I think stopping that was very important,” Trump had remarked during the dinner, without citing specific dates or diplomatic moves.

It should be noted here that the timing of Trump’s remarks appeared significant -- they came just hours before Netanyahu formally nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Handing Trump a copy of the nomination letter at the dinner, Netanyahu praised his role in “forging peace as we speak in one country, in one region after another.”

Trump, who has long expressed frustration over not receiving a Nobel, has repeatedly cited the Abraham Accords and his role in easing global conflicts, including between India and Pakistan, as justification for the honour.

New Delhi has, however, consistently maintained that the ceasefire understanding with Pakistan was a result of direct communication between the militaries’ Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs), not third-party intervention.
