Trump once again claims to resolve India-Pakistan war, says seven planes were shot down

Since May 10, Trump has repeatedly asserted on social media that he helped broker a “full and immediate” ceasefire between India and Pakistan after a “long night” of talks mediated by Washington.

Seven planes were shot down; that's a lot, said Trump.

US President Donald Trump, on Sunday, claimed that he played a key role in ending the conflict between India and Pakistan, asserting that the two countries halted their hostilities after he threatened to impose tariffs.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump said, “The threat of tariffs, as an example, kept India and Pakistan, two nuclear nations, from going at it. They were going at it. Seven planes were shot down; that's a lot. And they were going at it. And that could have been a nuclear war.”

He did not clarify to which country the planes belonged.

Trump added that Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had allegedly praised him for “saving millions of lives.” He said he warned both nations of 200 per cent tariffs, which he claimed forced them to end the conflict within 24 hours.

Since May 10, Trump has repeatedly asserted on social media that he helped broker a “full and immediate” ceasefire between India and Pakistan after a “long night” of talks mediated by Washington.

India has, however, consistently stated that the cessation of hostilities was reached through direct talks between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of the two militaries, independent of any US intervention.

The conflict followed India’s Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7 to target terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians. The two countries agreed to end hostilities on May 10 after four days of intense cross-border drone and missile strikes.
