Veteran investor, internet entrepreneur and Naukri.com founder Sanjeev Bikhchandani on Tuesday lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first address to the nation post Operation Sindoor and called it an "excellent speech".

Taking to X, Sanjeev Bikhchandani said, "Excellent speech. Tough on terror and terrorists- uncompromising in fact. Tough on those who back terrorists. If cross border terrorism persists there will be consequences - so should there be. Reiterates the commitment to keep the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance. Praises the targeted action by the armed forces - they did a commendable job."

"In my view the cease fire was the right thing to do for the Indian Govt. After the first night of action the Indian govt had maintained that our objectives have been achieved - we had got the terrorist camps and if Pakistan did not retaliate there would be no further attacks. Pakistan however did retaliate and the conflict got extended.

As things stand we have achieved what we set out to and this current conflict is over. And that’s good. A prolonged conflict would have medium term deleterious impact on investments (especially FDI) and consequent impairment on economic growth and employment," he added.

The veteran investor further shared his thoughts on the escalating tensions and said that "In my view, India stood more to lose than Pakistan by prolonging the conflict. A good decision to take the action that India did on the night of May 6. And a good decision to end the action with the cease fire."

PM Modi's first address post Op Sindoor

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday, in his first address to the nation after India-Pak ceasefire, said that Operation Sindoor against Pakistan has only been kept in abeyance and the future will depend on their behavior, underlining that India will not tolerate any "nuclear blackmail".

The Prime Minister said India is keeping a close watch on Pakistan and its actions. He said that India has only paused retaliation against the terrorist and military bases of Pakistan and has not ended it, adding that the ceasefire was first requested by Islamabad.

PM Modi further said that terror and talk cannot take place together; terror and trade cannot go together; and water and blood also cannot flow together.

Underscoring that "this is not an era of war, but neither is it an era of terrorism," the Prime Minister emphasised that for India to uphold peace, it must remain strong, and when necessary, that strength must be exercised.

India-Pakistan Tensions

After four days of an intense exchange of fire, India and Pakistan on Saturday reached a ceasefire ‘understanding’ to immediately stop all firing and military action on land, air and sea. The ceasefire, which was first announced by US President Donald Trump on Saturday, was violated by Pakistan hours later with drones being intercepted over parts of Jammu, Srinagar, Punjab and Rajasthan.

The military confrontation erupted after Islamabad launched drones and missiles towards the Indian territory, responding to the Operation Sindoor military strikes carried out by New Delhi on nine terror infrastructures in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7.

Operation Sindoor was launched in retaliation to the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam in which terrorists found to have links with Pakistan killed 26 civilians.
