Union minister Nitin Gadkari, on Sunday, made a strong pitch for generational transition in leadership, saying the younger generation should be entrusted with greater responsibility while the older generation steps aside once systems begin to function smoothly.

Addressing a press conference in Nagpur ahead of the Advantage Vidarbha-Khasdar Audhyogik Mahotsav, Gadkari said the initiative had consciously involved young leaders. The expo has been conceptualised by Gadkari and is being organised by Ashish Kale, president of the Association for Industrial Development (AID).

“I believe that gradually, the generation should also change,” Gadkari said. Referring to Kale, he added, “Ashish’s father is my friend. Now we should be gradually made to retire and the responsibility be given to the new generation, and when the vehicle starts running smoothly, then we should withdraw and do some other work.”

Gadkari, who is the chief mentor of AID, said this would be the third edition of the Advantage Vidarbha expo, scheduled to be held in Nagpur from February 6 to 8. He noted that the region has strong entrepreneurial potential across sectors and that the objective of the three-day event is to position Vidarbha as an emerging growth hub on India’s industrial map.

“There are very good entrepreneurs in Vidarbha in various sectors,” he said, adding that the expo aims to showcase the region’s industrial capabilities and attract investment.

The Union minister also underlined the importance of balanced development across the industrial sector, agriculture and allied activities, and the services sector for the overall growth of any region.

The Advantage Vidarbha expo will see participation from industries across a wide range of sectors, including textiles, plastics, minerals, coal, aviation, logistics, information technology, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, defence, real estate, renewable energy and startups, organisers said.
