In a horrific incident that has now emerged from Bihar's Barkhandi Tola village, a 20-year-old woman was killed by her in-laws after her family could not fulfil their demands of a gold chain.
The victim, DC Kumari, had been married to Vibhishan Yadav, for a year and her father, Jago Yadav confirmed that she was being tortured by her in-laws over dowry demands.
Jago said that he had asked the in-laws for two months' time to arrange for their demands to be met but they had refused to listen. Another relative of the victim also said that the in-laws had threatened to kill Kumari if their demands were not met.
"We gave them whatever we could. But they kept demanding a gold chain and a vehicle. I got married two months ago, and that’s why they have been demanding a (gold) chain. We said we can’t right away and asked for two months. That’s why they killed her," Kumari's brother Sandeep said.
He also alleged that the in-laws beat Kumari to death and then hanged her body. He added that injury marks were visible all over her body. NDTV reported that the accused are currently on the run and that the victim's body has been handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination.
This comes in the backdrop of the horrific Nikki Bhati case from Greater Noida where the victim was set ablaze just last week, after her husband Vipin Bhati and in-laws demanded that Rs 36 lakh dowry be given to them.
Disturbing visuals of Nikki, who was set on fire, walking down the staircase in flames, surfaced on social media. She was set on fire in front of her minor son, who later confirmed that something was poured on his mother and then, a lighter was used to set her ablaze.
