Amid escalated tensions between India and Pakistan, some Pakistani leaders have criticised their own government’s decision and strategy of retaliating against New Delhi.
Pleading with govt
Pakistani senator Tahir Iqbal broke down on Thursday while addressing the country’s National Assembly. National Assembly member. Iqbal was seen pleading with the Pakistani Army to save the country from Indian strikes.
“Our nation is in agony," he said. “I urge all of you to walk together and reconnect with your Lord. I beg before the Almighty to shield our country."
Calling for unity in the Assembly, Iqbal added, “I urge all Pakistani lawmakers to unite and pray before the God. Oh Allah, we bow down our heads before you, please save this country."
Will you stand by Pakistan?
In a video going viral on social media, Pakistani cleric Abdul Aziz Ghazi was heard asking his audience whether they would stand with Pakistan in the event of a war with India. “I have a question for you. Tell me, if Pakistan fights against India, how many of you would support Pakistan and fight for it?”
His questions elicited no response. Ghazi, known for leading Islamabad’s Lal Masjid, said, “This means there is enough understanding.”
He also slammed Islamabad for its actions in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. “What happened in Balochistan, what they did in Pakistan and across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa – these are atrocities. When the people were ready, the state bombed its own citizens,” he said.
'Dirty work'
Meanwhile, Pakistan's defence minister Khwaja Asif also made some shocking statements after the Pahalgama ttack on April 22.
In a brazen admission before international media, he appeared to admit that his country had been supporting, training and funding terrorist organisations “for last three decades”. Asif made the statement during an interview with Sky News journalist Yalda Hakim, where he was asked about the renewed tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack.
He was asked if he agreed that Pakistan has a long history of “supporting, training, and funding terrorist organisations".
“Well, we have been doing this dirty work for the United States for 3 decades,” he said.
