At least 10 people are feared dead and around 40 others injured after two government buses collided head-on near Thirupathur in Tamil Nadu on Sunday, officials said.
Police said one bus was headed toward Karaikudi and the other toward Madurai when they crashed on a narrow stretch of road. The impact trapped several passengers inside both vehicles before local residents and rescue teams pulled them out.
All injured passengers were taken to Sivagangai Government Hospital, where authorities warned that the toll could rise as some victims remain in critical condition.
A probe has been ordered to determine what caused the collision. Emergency crews are still on the spot, and traffic has been temporarily diverted along the route.
