In two separate incidents that have shocked Telangana, a senior Communist Party of India (CPI) leader was shot dead in Hyderabad, while a local Congress functionary was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Medak district.
In the first incident, CPI state council member K Chandu Naik was gunned down on Tuesday by unidentified assailants while on a morning walk near a park in Hyderabad's Malakpet.
According to police, the attackers arrived in a car and fired multiple rounds at Naik before fleeing the scene.
Naik died on the spot and an investigation is underway.
A police team was immediately dispatched, and a case has been registered.
The motive behind the killing remains unclear, and police are scanning CCTV footage and gathering evidence to identify the culprits.
Meanwhile, in the second incident, Congress Party SC Cell district secretary Marrelli Anil (28) was found dead near Variguntham village in Kulcharam mandal of Medak in the early hours of the day, reported Telangana Today.
According to police, four bullets were found near his body, though it is yet to be confirmed whether he suffered gunshot wounds. He reportedly had bleeding injuries on his right shoulder and chest.
Anil was returning to his native village of Pythara late Monday night after attending a party programme at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad, it has been learnt from the report. His body was discovered beside his vehicle under suspicious circumstances.
The police have shifted the body to the Medak Government Hospital for postmortem. The incident has triggered outrage and concern among Congress leaders, many of whom rushed to the hospital after learning of his death.
Investigation is underway in both cases to ascertain the circumstances and motives behind the murders.
